Los Cancioneros Scholarships

Each year, Los Cancioneros offers music scholarships of $1,000 each to worthy music students. Scholarship winners are invited to showcase their talent by performing with Los Cancioneros Master Chorale at one of its concerts. Winners have gone on to make an impact at the Metropolitan Opera, American Idol, LAUSD, and more.

LCMC has since been recognized by the Torrance Cultural Arts Commission, Palos Verdes Peninsula Coordinating Council's Community, and the U.S. Congress, California State Legislature, California State Senate and Los Angeles County, for passionate commitment to music performance, exemplary service to our local communities, and support of aspiring musicians.

The scholarship applicant may be a graduating high school senior or a community college, college, university, or music school student specializing in either vocal or instrumental music, with a grade point average of 3.0 or better. The student must currently reside, or have resided in the greater South Bay area of Southern California

Scholarship winners are determined by competitive audition. Our next auditions will be held on Saturday, May 18th. To get an application, fill out our Scholarship Information Form. Please note that applications will be due by Sunday, May 10th, 2024.

The LC Music Scholarship applicant requirements:

  1. A graduating high school senior OR a community college, college, university, or music school student, who is specializing in either vocal or instrumental music(Applicant may not be a graduate student.)

  2. Applicant either resides in (currently or previously) OR studies in the Greater South Bay of Los Angeles, California & Nearby Areas, i.e. El Camino College, Loyola Marymount University, CSU Long Beach, San Pedro HS, Lomita HS, Inglewood HS, Torrance HS, Redondo Beach HS, Mira Costa HS, Westchester HS, etc. OR Applicant is/was a Greater South Bay resident who attends college elsewhere.

  3. Is in good academic standing with a minimum, unweighted Grade Point Average of 3.0. Applicants will be asked to upload their unofficial transcript. High school seniors and Transfer students are also asked to upload their acceptance letter for the school they will be attending.

  4. Write a brief essay: Please tell us about your musical background, experience, and musical/professional aspirations.

Some Past Scholarship Winners

Renaissance Austin, Soprano, singer

Renaissance Austin, Soprano, is a vocal student at El Camino College. She is a singer who is completely at ease performing in a great many styles – classical, jazz, musical theater, gospel, and rock. She is open to many professional performing options, and intends to continue her music studies at a four-year school.

Kai Nakkim, Clarinet, is a freshman at Pepperdine University

Kai Nakkim, Clarinet, is a freshman at Pepperdine University. He is a very skilled clarinet player, and already has an amazing amount of experience playing with orchestras, bands, and small ensembles. One of his mentors and inspirations is Boris Allakhverdyan, principal clarinet with the LA Philharmonic. Kai aspires to play in a professional symphony orchestra in the future.

Abraham Cervantes, Tenor, is a gifted singer who studies at El Camino College. He also teaches music; he currently has about 40 private students. He is passionate about his teaching, and plans to achieve a PhD in Vocal Pedagogy, so that he can continue to pass on his love of music and singing. He will be attending either CSULB or CSUF in the fall.
